With the introduction of the all new Formula Renault 2000 category throughout Europe, the BARC Formula Renault championship looks set to expand once again as drivers and teams take advantage of the ready supply of top 1998 and 1998 FRS cars.
The BARC Formula Renault Championship, in association with Renault UK and Michelin, is now firmly established as one of Britain's premier single seater racing championships. The BARC decision to include the technically advanced Renault Sport chassis and engines into the 1997 National Championship provided the ideal progression path for aspiring young drivers and these cars now dominate the formula, both in terms of performance and numbers.
Formula Renault is a 'slicks and wings' formula and offers drivers close competition in cars with identical tyres and engine performance, allowing driver skill to shine. The championship provides for the modern 2-litre FRS cars and the pre-1995 1700cc cars, both of which have their own points scoring and prize system, which means that results can be achieved on affordable budgets.
An all round professional series, the BARC Formula Renault is an extremely cost-effective twelve race championship. While motor racing at this level can never be described as inexpensive, BARC Formula Renault generally costs less than most other comparable formulae.
The championship comprises two divisions:-
Championship points are scored in each class as follows:-
