After a fraught day of testing on Friday, much work went into preparing the car for Saturday morning. Understeer was the story of qualifying and an engine which lacked top end power, probably as a result of Fridays gearbox problem which saw the revs peak well into the 9,000 band. Third was a reasonable grid position, but the gap to Anthony (0.47 second) and Nick (0.65 seconds) was disappointing.
A few tweaks to the chassis cured the understeer in the race but the lack of power was evident on the pit straight! Still, Stuart got a good start but it was Elliot Lewis who made a flyer and he and Michael Nippers challenged Stuart's third place for much of the first three laps.
Having pulled a cushion on those two, Stuart set about closing the gap on Anthony and Nick. After 6 laps, Stuart was on Anthony's tail and there ensued a battle which lasted all the way to the flag. Stuart passed Anthony on lap 9, Anthony fought back past on lap 10 and Stuart passed again on lap 11, holding the place to the flag.
Meanwhile, Nick took advantage of the battle for second to pull out a small cushion and took his second win of the year, increasing his lead in the championship to 12 points.
Next race is at Oulton Park on June 20th - See you there.
Race Results 12 laps.
