Practice on Saturday dawned bright and clear and it was immediately obvious that the engine "freshen" was a good move. Stuart posted competitive lap times throughout the morning, culminating in a 1m 29.86 - just a tenth slower than Matt. During the lunch break, the heavens opened and the rest of the day served only to check wet setups.
Sunday morning was again bright, although the weather forecast was pessimistic. Nevertheless, qualifying was on a dry track and Stuart drove his heart out to take second on the grid with a 1m 30.25, 3 tenths down on poleman Peter Clarke. Matt Bettley posted a 1m 30.59 before his clutch failed and Charles Hall took fourth on 1m 30.85. Stuart had some gear selection problems which were put down to a slightly loose joint on the connector rod. At least he still had 5 gears - 3 more than Charles Hall's Tatuus at the end of the session!
A superb start from Bettley saw him lead at the end of the first lap from Peter Hall and Stuart, these three pulling clear of the rest of the field. On lap two, Stuart briefly took second from Peter before gear selection problems intervened, Peter taking back and holding second place as Bettley pulled away to a 7 second victory.
Next race is at Croft on the 1st of June - see you there!
