BARC Formula Renault Championship
Round 10
Oulton Park - 13 September 1997

Race Report

The damp conditions in Friday practice had caught out Charles Hall but his Tatuus was rebuilt in time for qualifying on Saturday. Not so lucky was Peter Clarke who crashed heavily at Druids in the treacherous conditions, damaging his Van Diemen beyond immediate repair. Pole went to Matt Bettley, closely followed by Charles Hall, Nick Dudfield and Stuart.

Between qualifying and the race the weather changed constantly, track conditions ranging from drenched to completely dry! Unlike Donington, however, slicks were clearly the order of the day as the cars formed up on the grid. A good start saw Stuart challenging for the lead on the first lap but as the race progressed, the engine lost power and he slipped back to fourth before the race was halted on lap 5.

Matt Bettley took a clear victory, moving him back into the championship lead ahead of the unfortunate Peter Clarke.

Next race is at Brands Hatch on the 5th of October - see you there!
