The Formula Renault Racing Car

Formula Renault is a 'wings and slicks' formula where each competitor
uses equipment to a specification that is controlled by the BARC and Renault. This means that meticulous attention to detail by
the team engineers and mechanics is essential to extract every
last ounce of speed from the set-up of the cars.
In order to achieve this, the cars are completely stripped and re-built after
each race and any suspect parts are replaced. Test sessions are
carried out at each circuit in the weeks prior to the race to
optimise the set-up for that circuit and to acquire data on the
settings required for various weather conditions.
- Competitors may choose any homologated 1995 or 1996 Formula Renault Sport Chassis (2000 Division) or earlier Formula Renault (1700 Division).
- The powerful 2 litre engines (2000 Division) are fitted with a 34mm restrictor to limit top speed to around 135mph.
- The adjustable 'Wings' at the front and rear provide aerodynamic downforce and thus increased cornering speed.
- Slick or wet weather control compound tyres from Michelin provide consistency of performance.
- Limited choice of ratios is allowed for the Hewland 5-speed racing gearbox (2000 Division).
- 1700 Division cars use standard Renault 5-speed gearbox.
- Spring rates, ride heights and damper settings are free, allowing fine tuning of the car for different circuits.
